Bridge Inspection Assistant 

(Full-Time EIT position and/or Internship position)

Qualifications

  • Currently seeking or graduate with B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • The ability and desire to climb large bridge structures, able to withstand high levels of physical exertion including walking, climbing, bending, carrying, and lifting at least 35 lbs. of equipment
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 50%) throughout the state
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the inspection schedules and field inspections
  • Assure that inspection and safety equipment is in good working order and calibrated when required prior to the field inspection 
  • Perform NBIS Element Level Bridge Inspections throughout the state
  • Measure geometrics and verify quantities
  • Operate all inspection related equipment as necessary
  • Collaborate with Bridge Inspection Team and assist with the identification of stress related deterioration and physical condition of various structural components and data collection as required
  • Document inspection findings
  • Record and review data using bridge management system
  • Prepare final reports and summaries for submittal to the client

Additional Comments

This position will entail on-the-job training under the guidance of a Bridge Inspection Team Leader (one of our licensed engineers on staff). The Bridge Inspection Assistant will gain valuable knowledge and skills in analyzing bridge distress and performing bridge analysis. Experience acquired will aid in obtaining Team Leader Certification for Routine Bridge Inspections. This experience may also be included in the Supplemental Experience Record (required engineering related experience) for obtaining a Texas Professional Engineering License.
